Tyler Receives an AwardUnderstanding and preparing for your child’s IEP (Individual Education Program) meeting is critical from the first day of kindergarten through the end of High school and beyond.  Support and help is also available at the college level. Neglia Collaboration will walk you through every step so you can obtain support in college, funding help for transportation, paid and non paid internship assistance through Department of Rehabilitation and San Diego Regional Center.

We will educate and coach you, and your child, on all the parts of the IEP (Individual Education Program). We will review what each section means and guide you in terms of what specific questions to ask and how to advocate for your child. You will be prepared for your child’s IEP meetings throughout his or her educational life without the additional expense of an advocate or attorney.

The early years:

  • Introduction to The San Diego Regional Center process & eligibilty requirements
  • Doctor/Specialist recommendations
  • Assessment review, discuss and decide your child’s specific goals
  • Preparing for your first IEP (Individual Education Meeting
  • Consultation with school program specialists, special education teachers, school technologists, school nurse, therapists and other service providers to ensure services meet the unique needs of your child at school
  • Address any physical challenges that might be posed by the school facility
  • Planning when is the most suitable time for your child to have surgeries during the school year. Planning with the school district to continue schooling while your child recovers

Transitioning your child from Elementary, to Middle School:

  • Assessment review of school and medical records for transition IEP
  • Review support services to ensure your child’s changing needs are being addressed
  • Provide assistance to prepare for your Annual IEP & Triennial Meetings
  • Consultation with program specialists, special education teachers, administrators, school technologists, school nurse, therapists and other service providers to ensure services meet the unique needs of your child
  • Address any physical challenges that might be posed by the school facility
  • Planning the best time to have a surgery, and how to continue school work as the child progresses into higher grades
  • Help to co-ordinate the development of an Individual Transition Plan (ITP) with the IEP Team Program Specialist. This should be done in grade 8 and no later than in grade 9. Start introducing SDRC into your meetings

Navigating through high school and preparing for future:

  • Re-open discussion with San Diego Regional Center
  • Provide assistance for your IEP & Triennial Meetings
  • Consultation with program specialist, special education teachers, administrators, school technologists, school nurse, therapists and other service providers to ensure services meet the unique needs of your child
  • Planning the best time for your child to have a surgery and keep up their school work while recuperating. How the school can assist the student
  • Life skills/workability options for transition from high school and beyond
  • Involve the Orientation and Mobility Specialist from the school district to teach; taking public transportation, shop for groceries.
  • Vocational versus 2 and 4 year college options. Many 2 and 4 year colleges offer “Disabled Student Services” (DSS).
  • SSI, Department of Rehab and San Diego Regional Center eligibility process.
  • Introduction and planning for community college; Internships programs provided by Dept. of Rehabilitation and San Diego Regional Center.
  • Review the services & programs offered by SDRC; Independent Living Services, Tailored Day Program etc.

Fees

I consult on an hourly basis. I am hired by the parents of a special needs child to consult on all issues pertaining to your child’s educational needs. Based on all my years of experience I can help prepare, and streamline your IEP Process so you can obtain the services your child needs to thrive.

In some instances I am hired as a consult by the school or district.
